News-Campaign Gains Support

American Breast Cancer Foundation’s Propane Manufacturers and Distributors Campaign Gains Support.

BALTIMORE’s First launched in 2006, the Propane Manufacturers and Distributors Campaign for Awareness program to support the American Breast Cancer Foundation, a nonprofit providing early screening and diagnostic services for breast cancer nationwide for women and men in need, has gained national support in the propane industry in states including New Hampshire, Vermont, Texas, California, Idaho, and several states in the Midwest.

One cent per gallon of gas or oil delivered by participating propane and gas suppliers is donated to ABCF’s Key to Life program. The foundation’s Key to Life program provides women and men in need with mammograms, biopsies and support services for the detection and treatment of breast cancer.

The propane industry provides the American Breast Cancer Foundation with tremendous support through this campaign, said Phyllis Wolf, president of the American Breast Cancer Foundation. The pink trucks generate a lot of interest and encourage women to get their first or annual mammograms.

The campaign was first introduced at the National Propane Gas Association’s (NPGA) annual conference in 2006 with the unveiling of the first pink-ribbon truck owned by Jim Rhymes, Jr., owner of Rhymes Heating, a New Hampshire-based propane distribution company. With the support of truck manufacturers and parts suppliers, the pink trucks became a reality. Since inception, the pink truck has cross pollinated to include transport lines, beverage distributors and utility trucks.

The presence of pink ribbon propane trucks is increasing on roads across America with truckers and manufacturers supporting the message that early screening and diagnosis saves lives.
